Chromium (III) Oxide is an inorganic compound with the formula Cr2O3. It is one of the principal oxides of chromium and is used as a pigment. It can be manufactured by heating chromium hydroxide, heating dry ammonium dichromate, and heating sodium dichromate with sulfur and washing out the sodium sulfate:

(NH4)2Cr2O7 --> Cr2O3 + N2 + 4H2O

Na2Cr2O7 + S --> Na2SO4 + Cr2O3

This compound is employed in metallurgical processing and has applications in chrome plating and anodizing aluminum. It can also used in paints, inks, and glasses.
